Architectural function flows into a timeless heritage home nestled among Sydney’s historic harbour side suburb inspiring a family environment for modern living.

By embracing the building’s history while integrating a crisp contemporary style, this build awakened a true platform for family life. The design and construction provided a refreshing space with ample light and ventilation, enhancing the homes overarching liveability. The beautiful American Oak floors and Sandstone fireplace distinguished a unique personality complementing the home’s balance in style and purpose.

Enlightening Glebe

The greatest challenged faced and perhaps the most satisfiying was the roofline structure.

Unable to raise the roof any higher, three bedrooms and one bathroom had to fit under the existing roof line. The solution to work with the structure resulted in a fantastic trajectory of vaulted angular ceilings featuring meticulous carpentry finishes.
Large dormer windows provided ventilation for the upper floor, with extra light sourced through skylights.

1 THE BRIEF

Owners Dan and Tiki wanted to build a first floor addition plus ground floor alteration and renovation for their expanding family at their Glebe residence. A charming 100-year old house in a fantastic location near local parks and the waterfront, it was deserving of major improvements to enhance the at home lifestyle.

2 THE STRATEGY

A thorough and collaborative pre-construction consultation established the resourcing schedule and project program to move forward. The age and heritage of the house needed to be considered from both preservation and design perspectives–a process of impact without imposition.

3 THE BUILD

Work began by demolishing the rear of the house to reconfigure the new design where preserving authenticity here proved to be confronting yet exciting. The internal fit out produced a complementary blend of classic style from the front of the house with a crisp and modern new style at the rear. American Oak floors and staircase, coupled with a sandstone fireplace, added signature touches to this luxury build.

4 THE RESULT

Perhaps the greatest result was providing a beautiful home of functional quality for Dan, Tiki and their children to enjoy a bright future in. Our fundamental goal was to not only hand over the keys to a beautiful home, but also the portal to an inspired life.
