Project Overview

Clean and Modern Coastal Lines

The Copacabana house is a stylish and modern retreat. A place for the owners to escape city life and enjoy the quintessential Australian coastal lifestyle with friends and family. They were open to exploring new ideas and moving away from established conventions, and willing to follow our lead on a number of considerations, to ensure the new home was perfect for them.

We collaborated with Brad Swartz Architects on this clean and modern design – where the material was thoughtfully considered to create a seamless transition between the original house and the new build.

Sitting tantalisingly close to the ocean and rolling surf, the existing dwelling was in an envious position, but the existing design did nothing to maximise the glorious ocean views on offer. Structural additions, layout changes, and a full external façade rejuvenation, opened this home right up. We increased both light and space, eking out every last drop of the elevated coastal aspect, and welcoming the glorious sunrise right into the living room.

It’s pretty common to be faced with construction challenges in Copacabana and this site was no different. Steep blocks, tight access and bushfire constraints were the order of the day, but we overcame them to provide construction access.

Special consideration had to be given to the extreme marine environment to ensure this build would endure. Stainless steel was used heavily throughout and all metal components were set for extreme durability or had specialty coatings applied.

Design details such as high raking ceilings, a mezzanine level and clean, white walls echo the coastal beach environment. Custom fabricated steel balustrades and bespoke joinery in every room rounded out this project.

We thoroughly enjoyed working with Brad Swartz Architects and the owners on this project. Every time they visit the property, we get a call from them saying how much they love it. And there isn’t a better feeling than that.
