Project Overview

A Slice of Heaven on the Central Coast

The McMasters Beach house was designed as a luxurious coastal retreat for the owners, bringing a whole new meaning to the classic Australian beach home.

Situated on the majestic Central Coast, a place of rolling surf, endless beaches and prominent headlands, the original house was in an envious location. To capture the essence of this unique location and really maximise the position, a major build was required, involving serious structural additions and alterations.

Inspired by the beautiful Australian coastline, the new home features high ceilings, exposed timber beams, and interiors flooded with natural light. With the addition of concrete walling and recycled timber, it was a complete facelift, turning it into something completely new.

It was a tricky build. Access to the seaward side of the house was extremely restricted. So much so in fact, we had to move an excavator through the entire house, as well as craning structural elements such as portal structural steel and heavy timber columns over the house.

Being in such close proximity to the ocean, the materials were carefully selected to ensure their durability. Stainless steel was used heavily throughout and was electropolished for added durability. Additionally, large rough sawn, recycled hardwood timbers were employed externally and internally as a feature of the project.

Project scheduling was critical to the success of the project. Due to difficult access, all works had to be completed incrementally, away from the ocean side of the house so access could remain unobstructed.

The end result is a magnificent, luxurious coastal retreat for the owners. And they couldn’t be happier. So much so in fact, we are now building them their new primary residence.
